ARTHUR SHAFFER OBITUARY
Arthur L. Shaffer, Jr. July 8, 2022 Arthur L. Shaffer, Jr., 85, of Jamesville, died peacefully on July 8, 2022 at his home. He was born October 9, 1936, at his grandfather’s farm on Taylor Road in the Town of Pompey. Art was a graduate of the last class of Jamesville High School in 1954. He graduated from Syracuse University with an associate’s degree in 1974 and a bachelor’s degree in 1976, by attending night school through University College. He retired in 1997 from Texas Brine. Before that he worked at the Jamesville Quarry of Allied Chemical. Art was active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years; as a scout and as a leader, when his sons became scouts. He was a First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. An active outdoorsman, he taught his children how to shoot, hunt and fish. Art served his community as a member of the Jamesville Volunteer Fire Department, as a fireman, first assistant chief, earning the status of life member and fire commissioner of the Jamesville Fire District. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty G. Shaffer; his parents, Arthur and Lillie Shaffer; and his grandson, Michael Paul. He is survived by his wife, Mary Paul Shaffer; his children, Terry (Penny), Asbury Park, NJ, Arthur (Myle), Everett, WA., Elizabeth Tily, Jamesville, NY, Steven (Linda), Corpus Christi, TX, and Gregory (Kim) and Eric, both of Phoenix, NY; stepchildren, Karen Depue, North Webster, IN, Susan Paul Saladino, Buffalo, NY, Robert Paul, Navarino, NY, and Michael (Mary) Paul, Jamesville, NY; brother, Douglas (Jill), Sebring, FL; and sister, Dianne Nalin (Carlo), Princeton, NJ; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday July 13, 2022, from 10 – 12 PM at the Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt, with a committal service to follow at White Chapel Memory Gardens Cemetery, Kinne Road, DeWitt; led by, Major Terry L.
